The First Melbourne Cup was run on a Tuesday in 1875

There have been 5 Melbourne Cup Winners to win more than once

Makybe Diva is the only Melbourne Cup Winner to win it 3 times

Bart Cummings still holds the record for the most Melbourne Cup Wins as a trainer

Michelle Payne is the only female jockey to ever win a Melbourne Cup and did so on Prince of Penzance in 2015.

As an owner there is only 4 owners to ever win the Melbourne Cup 3 times. These are John Tait, Etienne de Mestre and Dato Tan Chin Nam although it should be noted that Etienne was only leasing the winner for 3 of those wins.

There has never been a dead heat in a Melbourne Cup although back in 2011 there nearly was with Dunaden and Red Cadeaux.

The Melbourne Cup field size is now 24 runners but back in the 1800’s there could be as many as 39.

Although Barriers were only introduced in 1924 some 49 years after the first Melbourne Cup was run there has never been a horse to win from Barrier 18.

Now for some questions from our followers

What is the largest Melbourne Cup Trifecta dividend ever paid out?
The largest Melbourne Cup Trifecta paid $61,867.90 and was over 20 years ago now in 1993 when Vintage Crop won the Melbourne Cup as a 7 year old.

Is the Caulfield Cup a good indication of whether a horse can win a Melbourne Cup?
We think it is, and the statistics show that of horses that won the Caulfield Cup 11 of these have actually gone on to win a Melbourne Cup, although it has been 15 years since a horse has done the double, statistics indicate that we are overdue for a Caulfield/Melbourne Cup double!

Who are we tipping in the Final field of 2015 Melbourne Cup?

Fame Game to win, Snow Sky for 2nd and Red Cadeaux for 3rd.

Why have we picked these?

Fame Game was always a great pick from the start however with Mongolian Khan out of the Melbourne Cup it has just strengthened the fact that Fame Game could definitely take out the Melbourne Cup in 2015. Mongolian Khan ended up being ruled out as a contender in the Melbourne Cup after developing colic during the week. Mongolian Khan was an excellent contender taking out both the New Zealand Derby and Australian Derby as a 3 year old and was one of the favourites to take out the Melbourne Cup. Fame Game is up there on class if you ask me.

Snow Sky is owned by Saudi Prince Khalid Abdullah and is also a dual Group 2 winner in England. While not as strong as the Japanese horse should finish very strong over the 3200 metres.

Red Cadeaux well what can we say? This horse runs a very strong race every year but manages to miss out on the big win in the Melbourne Cup every single year. I definitely wouldn’t be leaving Red Cadeaux out of my Trifectas and First Fours though as I expect another strong finish in 2015.
The Melbourne Cup field is:

1. Snow Sky

2. Criterion

3. Fame Game

4. Our Ivanhowe

5. Big Orange

6. Hartnell

7. Hokko Brave

8. Max Dynamite

9. Red Cadeaux

Melbourne Cup Bets $1,000

$1,000 in Free Bets

There are plenty of bookmakers offering free bets on the 2015 Melbourne Cup and it is not hard to sign up with several of these bookmakers. We show you how to get over $1,000 in Free Bets on the 2015 Melbourne Cup.

Sportsbet offer free bets on Group 1 races which includes the 2015 Melbourne Cup and all you have to do to get a free $25 bet on the Melbourne Cup is deposit $10 into your Sportsbet account before Tuesday 3rd 2015.

Now I am not sure if Tom Waterhouse will be running his $25 Million Melbourne Cup First 10 this year but last year this actually didn’t look like a great bet to me. In fact I think I would of rathered open an Oz Lotteries account and deposited $10 into that and got myself a few $2 lucky lotteries. If you follow the $2 lucky lotteries you will see one lucky punter actually hit the jackpot last week and cashed in a whopping $10,015,000 in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10026. The ticket if you would like to know was sold at AK Newstalk, Shop 1004,Westpoint in Blacktown. As for the Tom Waterhouse $25 Million Melbourne Cup bet… let’s just stay I won’t be having a bet in this one.

Now we also have Betfair who if you have not signed up with yet offer $150 in cash bets however there is a little catch with this one. That is that you must deposit $50. Which although might be a little catch to get that $150 in cash bets is actually not a bad one. This now opens you up to have a bet on a horse in the cup and then save a bit of money for the exotics like the trifectas and first fours. For this one I suggest you check out our page on Flexi Betting in the 2015 Melbourne Cup.

Luxbet who are backed by Tapcorp are still also running a similar betting strategy to Betfair in that they are offering $150 in cash bets on top of the initital $50 you must deposit. You must use the Luxbet promo page however to get this bet.

Crownbet are offering a $650 Free bet as well but you will need to deposit $500 to get that $650 free bet.  So in total you will have $1150 for Melbourne Cup Day.  They also have the double deposit for new customers where they will match your deposit up to $1,000.

You will notice that I haven’t included any affiliate links or direct links to these betting agencies and bookmakers. There is a reason for that and that is that I choose not to be affiliated with any of these agencies as I want to give my subscribers an unbiased report into what each of the betting companies are offering and not just what would pay me the largest commission when you place a bet with them. Be careful of websites who are linking directly to the sites as they are most probably linking to get a commission and don’t have any interest in actually getting you a great deal on the Melbourne Cup.

Max Hitchins has a new book called  “How To Pick The Winner Of The 2014 Melbourne Cup” and is giving it away as an E-book at just $9.95.  Max knows his horse racing and especially when it comes to Tipping the Melbourne Cup.

Let’s look at last year for instance.  The 2013 Melbourne Cup Max selected 6 horses and 4 of them finished in the Top 6 including the horse he picked overall to take out the great race, that being Fiorente.  The system he uses has worked 23 out of 26 years.

Personally this year I think Signoff and Admire Rakti look very hard to beat with Signoff being my overall selection.  Let’s stay tuned to see what Max Hitchins picks to win the Melbourne Cup in 2014.

Can Signoff win the 2014 Melbourne Cup?

Can Signoff win the Melbourne Cup in 2014? That is the question a lot of punters will be asking themselves after that absolutely impressive run in the Lexus Stakes on Derby Day.  Signoff won the race over 2500 metres with what looked like absolute ease and given the weight Signoff has in the Melbourne Cup of just 51kgs it looks like a great bet (currently sitting at odds of $7)

Trained by Darren Weir this looks like the one to beat on Tuesday, now it is just a waiting game to see if 4 days is enough time for Signoff to recover for the 3200 metre race.

I will be including Signoff in my trifecta bets and first fours as it should definitely finish in the placings.

Given that a lot of the top weights haven’t really had overly impressive wins in my opinion lately apart from Admire Rakti I think that Signoff can really take advantage of this.

If you are looking for some tips for Flemington on Tuesday check out this Punters Paradise Tipping Profile.  This is the leader of successfully tipping Group 1 Races such as the Melbourne Cup at the moment and tipped both Happy Trails @ $7 and Bonaria which paid $38 with some bookmakers around the country yesterday

Can Sea Moon Win? – 2014 Melbourne Cup Tips, form guide

Can Sea Moon win the 2014 Melbourne Cup? Well it would seem that this race over 3200 metres could prove a little tough for the 7 year old. He has won the Herbert Power which is a 2400 metre race but that was back in 2013, and finished in the 2nd half of the field running 13th in the 2013 Melbourne Cup 9.5 lengths behind Fiorente.

The stallion was spelled for 30 weeks this prep and made a return in the Group 3 Bart Cummings race over 2520 metres and while not an overall bad run it wasn’t exactly impressive when he finished 5th to Who Shot theBarman by close to 4 lengths.

Sea Moon will also face a hard task from Barrier 18 and while the race is over 3200 metres a lot of punters would argue that the gate is no concern however when you have a low weight like Signoff who had an absolutely impressive win on Saturday I would say that it is a major concern.
